Despite the bumps in the past year, we are closing 2023 with big smiles on our faces in our beautiful new practice!
We are grateful for your support and loyalty during the past transitional period.

By agreement with our friends at restaurant ‘POR DO SOL’, patients with an appointment with Dr Folmer may park in the restaurant’s car park during practice hours (Por do Sol is located on the corner near the practice).
We are extremely happy that after some humps and bumps, we were finally able to open the doors of our new practice on 4 September! Some finishing touches still need to be added here and there, but we have already enjoyed working there last week.
A new location, but of course the same esteemed doctor and the same commitment and service you have come to expect from him since 2005!

Practice is almost done! But until then, Dr Folmer is still temporarily practicing at HPA in the Algarve Shopping in Guia.
We had to be very patient in the renovation process of the new practice. But now things are moving fast. We cannot yet give an opening date with 100% certainty, we hope early July, but we will certainly keep you informed! Until then, Heino is still temporarily practicing at HPA in Algarve shopping in Guia.
Some of you may remember that Doctor Folmer was a well-known Dutchman for a short time! In 2009,10 and 11, he was featured weekly on national television (NPO 1 – primetime) in the programme “De vakantiedokter”, in which a camera crew followed Heino in his work during a summer season. After two successful seasons (and one repeat), the programme was discontinued, but often the press still knows how to find Heino! Is there a heat wave or a pandemic, do they want background information on partying young people in albufeira or getting older in the sun….. both radio and TV still often knock on the door for a quote or a full interview. Heino also likes to write about his beloved profession, so every now and then a column of his is posted. This is also the case in the magazine of the Dutch-language association in Portugal: Blik op Portugal. You receive this magazine as a member, but it is also often found in shops, restaurants or B&Bs. The magazine can also be found in Heino’s new practice. So: ears and eyes open, you might bump into the doctor in the press!
I heard through patients and healthcare colleagues that a second Dutch-speaking GP in the Eastern Algarve was sorely missed. So to meet this, in addition to my usual work as a GP in ALBUFEIRA, I will now do consultations (and sometimes home visits) in Faro. Starting on Tuesday afternoons at Saar@Home – Homecare agency (opposite FARO State Hospital).

It has been the most frequently asked question in recent months: “Where will your new practice be located Doctor”/ And so I can finally make a celebratory announcement: this will be the new practice! The practice is located on the Estrada da Galé, Sesmarias, Albufeira (between the Marina and Galé). Next to the recently opened W Algarve hotel. And although I am grateful to HPA for allowing me to temporarily practice with them, I am looking forward to being able to continue in my own independent practice again! There are still some adjustments to be made to the premises to (be allowed to) function as a GP practice. The plans are already finalised (including an artist impression above) and it promises to be a beautiful, small, personalised practice! Unfortunately, I cannot give an opening date yet, as we too are at the mercy of the Portuguese contractor and the availability of staff and materials. But I hope to move in within a few months. I will keep you posted!
